To compliment this we try to host events that capture these changes in season. To start the season we have over 100 varieties of snowdrops to see within the gardens and these are celebrated in our Snowdrops events. .

Hill Close Gardens also offer seasonal workshops where visitors can purchase tickets and take part - from Propagation, Flower arranging to Pruning and more

Not forgetting our educational activities run by a group of dedicated volunteers allowing the next generation of gardeners. Here you can see our education volunteers keeping the little ones busy. More on our educational activities below.

In June we like to put on our 'Music in the Gardens' event. This usually involves musicians performing within the gardens. Our tearoom is open during events for tea / coffee and cake.

Then even later in the year we like to hold a Chrysathemum open day so visitors can see a last blast of colour within the gardens.

Into the winter months
During winter there are indoor events including our Mid-Winter Music event held within the warmth of our visitor centre - this event has a bar and refreshments are included.

Ready for the performance
Moving into July we have a drama production set within the gardens. This event is performed by a local theatre company and has become a permanent fixture in our events calendar.

Keeping traditions alive
Hill Close Gardens are a very visual place and we like to keep tradition dance available to see at our events. Great for families to explore the language of dance.

Folk musicians within the gardens complimenting the tranquil setting, local musicians join in at our events and create the perfect setting.

Outdoor exercise
Hill Close Gardens provides a magical and wondrous space that introduces children and their families to nature through outdoor learning and play. Throughout the year children can experience the changing seasons and, through planned activities, learn about life in the gardens.

Sowing the seed
There can be no better experience than getting down on the ground, feeling the soil and leaves, digging for worms and harvesting the crops the children have planted. For some, most importantly, jumping in muddy puddles is the best fun you can have so wellies and waterproofs are always required!

Families enjoy digging and planting, water play and being creative through natural art and craft activities.
We make miniature gardens, boggling bugs and beautiful bunting to decorate our Summer House. We’ve been Insect Inspectors and Autumn Colour Collectors.

Joe the Scarecrow looks after our Children’s Garden , where you can join us for our monthly fun filled Grow and Explore Drop In sessions that introduce young children to learning and playing outdoors.

Going back in time
Children learning how the Victorian children played. Schools, nurseries and pre-schools can book a visit and we can tailor the activities to meet your needs.

Bug hunting
On one of our Schools visits - Children exploring the gardens on the hunt for bugs. Bug hunt trails are a feature of school visit activities. Last year (2019) the children and their families enjoyed picking the strawberries, beans and radishes, harvesting the potatoes we planted, watering the sunflowers, digging for worms and searching for minibeasts.
