The location

Between the East 12th and East 13th towers of the Simatai Great Wall, there is a section built on a hollow cave. Its steepness is not inferior to the famous Wangjing Tower and Fairy Tower.

The large cave

A little to the east of the 13th East Tower, there is a large cave that slants through both inside and outside sections of the Great Wall, and penetrates from the middle of the mountain under the wall.

Why is it called the "Great Wall in the Air"?

Just because of this structure of walls crossing over a hollowed-out mountain in the air, the local people have given this section of the Great Wall an interesting name - the "Great Wall in the Air".

It is impossible to investigate how this hollow cave of about 5.5 meters in diameter and more than 10 meters in length was formed. Standing here and looking down, one will feel the journey more dangerous when the mountain wind gushes out of the hole from the bottom.

We can not imagine how this section of the Great Wall was built hundreds of years ago under such difficult circumstances, but the workers at that time completed this impossible mission.
