This exhibit seeks to unveil the architectural characteristics of the interior of the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts) building.

The building consists of four wings around a central courtyard, with four floors with access by stairs and elevator, the last one, on its roof, occupied by three cloister vaults (domes) and two terraces. Its structure is composed of self-supporting masonry in stone and metal profiles, internal walls of brick masonry and internal decoration in marble, mosaics, stucco, crystal and statuary.

The “Santa Bárbara” panel, located in the central courtyard, is a work by Djanira (Avaré, SP 1914 – Rio de Janeiro, RJ 1979), an important representative of Brazilian modernism.
The panel belongs to the City of Rio de Janeiro and is currently on loan in the central courtyard of the National Museum of Fine Arts, where it was restored. It measures 97 m² and is made up of around 4600 tiles. The panel was located on top of the Santa Bárbara Tunnel.

This collection consists of plaster moldings, using a direct molding technique on original sculptures from the Hellenistic, Roman, classical Greek and Renaissance periods, which are exhibited in several museums around the world.
Through this collection, students at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, and later at the National School of Fine Arts, were able to discover these important works and use them in drawing classes.
