By Western Avenue Association

Julie "Juuri" Robertson

Located on the north wall of the Ketch Design Centre, this mural spans nearly 40 feet in length and nearly 20 feet in height. Julie worked on this mural over the course of 3 weeks by herself and this is the first large scale artwork she had completed at the time.

FORTUNE FAVORS THE BRAVE

Alluding to the resilience of Oklahomans to withstand overwhelming natural and man-made disasters. No matter the hardships, we always bounce back and treat everyone with kindness, free of embitterment. The muse for her piece is a local 14-year old girl who is beautiful inside and out. She is crowned with florals and scissor-tailed flycatchers rendered in kimono style to represent Julie's Japanese heritage.

JULIE "JUURI" ROBERTSON

Julie was born in Tokyo, Japan and moved with her family to the USA when she was six years old. She signs her Japanese-themed work “JUURI” (従理), which is her Japanese given name. She says “my Japanese heritage” and “color & line” are the two primary themes of my work. The theme she chooses to convey depends on her mood and inner struggles at the time of painting. She mesmerizes viewers with the use of luscious images left with many questions to ponder about the symbolism and color in the paintings. Her beautiful work is inspiring and we are humbled to showcase her talent in this art initiative. juuriart.com
