Evdokia Pavlovna Gulyaeva was born on October 10, 1930 in the village II Neryuktyay Megino-Kangalassky region in the family of Pavel Dmitrievich and Ustinya Gavrilievna Starostin. 

Her father worked as a secretary of the village council, and from an early age instilled in the girl a love of reading and learning. In 1938, at the age of seven, Evdokia entered the Khaptagai rural seven-year school. This is a significant and joyful event for every child was overshadowed by the death of Paul Dmitrievich who died in the autumn of that year after a long illness.

In 1946, Evdokia graduated from the Khaptagai school and came to Yakutsk to continue her studies at the comprehensive school No. 2.

During her studies, she often visited the children's branch of the Yakutsk Republican Library named after A.S. Pushkin, where, by reading books, gradually began to master the Russian language.

After graduation in 1949, Evdokia Pavlovna entered the Yakut Republican Cultural-educational school and successfully graduated in 1951.

Under the conditions of the socialist transformation of the country, by order No. 25 of the People's Commissariat for Education of the YaASSR dated January 19, 1937, the Yakutsk eight-month regional Soviet Party School was reorganized into a two-year school for cultural and educational workers. From this date, the countdown of the development of education in the field of cultural enlightenment begins. Graduates worked in reading rooms, “red chums”, libraries and were engaged in the elimination of illiteracy, the organization of political self-education, the organization of amateur performances, etc.

In 1951, driven by enthusiasm and a desire to introduce northerners to books and reading, Evdokia Pavlovna voluntarily went to the Far North, to the Bulunsky district, head of the district library of the Bulunsky district.

Bulunsky district was formed on December 10, 1930 in the north of Yakutia. The administrative center of the village of Tiksi is located at a distance of 1694 km from the capital of the Republic of Yakutsk.

On May 10, 1954, Evdokia Pavlovna married the primary school teacher of the Chokurdakh secondary school, Gulyaev Savva Vasilyevich, whom she met during a business trip as the head of the culture department of the Allaikhovskiy district.   

Chokurdakh is an urban-type settlement, the administrative center of the Allaikhovskiy district of Yakutia. Located near the mouth on the left bank of the Indigirka River, which flows into the East Siberian Sea. The distance to the city of Yakutsk by air is 1360 km. Chokurdakh is connected by the 98K008 seasonal winter road with the village of Ust-Neroi. The settlement was founded on November 5, 1936. The status of an urban-type settlement - since 1981.

During her studies, on May 10, 1956, her first child was born - a daughter, Nadezhda. 

Due to the difficult financial situation, Evdokia Pavlovna, in parallel with the study and parenting, worked as an ironer in the laundry of orphanage.

In 1960, after graduating from the Moscow State Library Institute, Evdokia Pavlovna was sent to work at the Yakut Republican Library named after A.S. Pushkin (now the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)).

The National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is one of the largest libraries in the North-East of the Russian Federation and is a research institution in the field of library science, bibliography and book history, an organizational, methodological and coordination center for libraries of the republic of all systems and departments. It was founded in September 14, 1925 by the resolution of an enlarged meeting at the Council of People's Commissars of the YaASSR.

She began her career in the library as a senior librarian of the methodological cabinet.

From 1961 to 1991, for 30 years, Evdokia Pavlovna was the irreplaceable, legendary head of the reading room. And from 1991 to 2018 she worked as a researcher at the Research Center of the Book Monuments of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Evdokia Pavlovna became the first researcher of the pre-revolutionary history of the Yakut book.

Made an invaluable contribution to the development of bibliology of Yakutia, the development of the history of the national book publishing, having published more than forty scientific articles and works. It filled a gap in yakut historiography, recreated the general panorama of the beginning of the development of book publishing in Yakutia in 1812-1917, one of the most interesting and fascinating pages in the history of the region.

The predecessors of the Yakut book were lists of individual words, phrases, numbers, small dictionaries in the fundamental works of the travelers N.K. Witzen, F.I. Stralenberg, P.S. Pallas, I. I. Billings, J. I. Lindenau and others.
The contribution of political exiles to the further development of the Yakut written language is invaluable. Monuments of writing and the Yakut book are the "Dictionary of the Yakut language" by E.K. Pekarsky, "Samples of the Yakut folk literature" by I.A. Khudyakov.
All these publications still serve as sources for the study of the language, writing, culture and history of the Yakut people.

In her writings, Evdokia Pavlovna presented the activities of the Russian Orthodox Mission for the translation and publication of books in the languages ​​of the peoples of Yakutia in publishing centers in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yakutsk.

Evdokia Pavlovna proved that the missionaries are the founders of the first publishing agencies in Yakutia: the Committee for the translation of sacred books into the Yakut language; The Censorship Committee for the printing of sacred books in the Yakut language; Yakut missionary translation commission. She studied in detail the activities of prominent representatives of Orthodox missionary work - Innokenty Veniaminov, Dimitri Khitrov, Dimitrian Popov, the results of whose work constitute the fundamental basis of the national book.

A separate layer of research interests of E.P. Gulyaeva - the emergence and development of book printing in Yakutsk in 1861-1917. 

She studied the prerequisites for the emergence of book printing in Yakutia, the conditions for the development of local printing, the emergence of private printing houses and book trade, traced more than half a century history of the Yakutsk regional printing house. In 2004, Evdokia Pavlovna defended her thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic "History of books in Yakutia (1812-1917)". In the same year, her monograph "Book in Yakutia (1812-1916)" was published.

In the Research Center of Book Monuments of the National Library of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) active work was carried out to find, study and describe the first books in the languages of the peoples of Yakutia.

In 2015, the Siberian publishing company "Nauka" published the "Consolidated catalog of the Yakut book (1812–1917)", compiled by the staff of the center of book monuments. The catalog contains information about 361 pre-revolutionary books in the Yakut, Tungus and Chukchi languages, published in the cities of Russia, as well as books in the Yakut and Russian languages, published in Yakutsk in 1812-1917. The catalog reflects the funds of book monuments of 30 institutions, including 16 libraries, 8 museums, 3 archives, 3 libraries of the spiritual department of Yakutsk, Vilyuisk, Irkutsk, Tomsk, Kazan, Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 2016, at the IV competition of the Russian Library Association, the catalog was awarded the title "Best Professional Book of the Year - 2016" in the "History of the Region" nomination.

In April and December 1997, she spoke at International conferences in England and Alaska with the topic “Publishing Activity of the Russian Orthodox Mission in Yakutia (1812-1917)”, and on April 14 in Oxford, then on April 17 in Edinburgh (Scotland).

Evdokia Pavlovna during her life actively participated in international and Russian scientific and practical conferences in Oxford, Edinburgh (Great Britain) and Fairbanks (USA), Irkutsk, Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Novosibirsk, Yakutsk, Mirny, etc.

Her talent, obsession, and hard work continue to have a great influence on the development of bibliology in Yakutia. She put her whole soul, experience and knowledge into her work. The whole life path, the achievements of Evdokia Pavlovna Gulyaeva evoke admiration, surprise, pride!
