The Italian Red Cross has been working for more than 150 years to prevent and alleviate human suffering wherever it may be found, respect human beings and protect life and health, in Italy and abroad. The Red Cross makes no discrimination as to nationality, race, religious beliefs, class or political opinions. It endeavors to relieve the suffering of individuals, being guided solely by their needs, and to give priority to the most urgent cases of distress. The humanitarian action is guided by the seven Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement: Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary service, Unity and Universality.
The fields of intervention are: social assistance, prevention, training and assistance in the health field, disaster relief, promotion of a culture of peace and non-violence and the breakdown of prejudice against vulnerable people. All activities of Italian Red Cross are inspired by the analysis of the needs and the vulnerabilities of the community that are daily monitored thanks to the presence of 150 thousand volunteers who work in local branches. Anyone can join Red Cross starting from the age of 14.
