"All aboard; the steamer should leave at midnight. While each one seeks a berth to avoid the terrible seasickness, I remained on the deck thinking about what was most dear to me on land. [...] What a painful thing the hour of departure is...
...not even Chateaubriand's magic pen was able to translate the greatness of this pain. And I avoid saying any more words for fear of arousing the laughter of the adepts of the realist school. If they have too much spirit, they lack heart".
Antônio Bezerra
The Travelers from the Land of the Sun
Ceará and the Cearenses. The latter seem to spark a taste for exploratory travel, resulting, regardless of their final destination, whether overseas or in the paths of their own province, in publications and manuscripts that report what they witnessed through pen and paper.
NOTAS DE VIAGEM AO RIO DE JANEIRO
João Brígido
The manuscript collection of the Biblioteca Pública Estadual do Ceará (BECE), located in the Rare Works sector, totals approximately 100 titles. Among them, one can find two paper amounts, carefully bound in olive-green leather, showing the following inscriptions in gold on the cover: João Brígido - Notas de Viagem ao Rio de Janeiro.
João Brígido, born in Rio de Janeiro but a son of Ceará by vocation, was a politician of relevant importance in the history of Ceará in the 19th century. He was a fierce activist for causes he believed would benefit society, such as the constitution of a Provincial Library of Ceará, today the State Public Library of Ceará, and in the defense of liberal ideals that prevailed in part of Ceará's intellectuals.

No Paiz dos Yankees
The writer of the novels Bom-Crioulo and A Normalista also decided to write and publish his travel notes. Adolfo Caminha, remembering his time in the United States, details his impressions of the American culture and ethos.

Interior da Província: Notas de Viagem
From pamphlet to publication, the travel notes of the naturalist Antônio Bezerra follow a trajectory that many writers chose to follow. Releasing their texts in the periodicals was the cheapest (and often the most effective) way to publish in the province.

Using a curious pseudonym, Antônio Bezerra published the pamphlets "Interior da Província: Notas de Viagem" between April 1895 and November 1887
These texts, previously unpublished in the study of literature from Ceará, were published in their entirety in the newspaper A Constituição, from Fortaleza.
