With the theme I Want to Show My Face—I Pay Taxes Too, support for the event's second year came from the São Paulo Association for the GLBT Pride Parade (Associação da Parada do Orgulho GLBT de São Paulo). This non-governmental organization would go on to organize the march every year.
The acronym GLBT, including the B representing bisexual people, was adopted from the event's third year. In 2009, it would change again to LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transvestites, and Transexuals, in the language of the LGBT+ community at the time).
