Historic Royal Palaces is digitising the most important pieces in the Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, a collection of outstanding importance, recognised by Arts Council England's Designation Scheme.

Our curators and conservators carefully selected which garments to capture first, including many items that have never before been on public display. The delicate costume items were beautifully mounted for photography by our skilful textile conservators.

Working in partnership with Google Arts & Culture, nearly 200 outfits have been captured in gigapixel - ultra-high resolution photography - and published online. This showcase enhances every stitch and sequin, allowing you to look close up at the sartorial gems in our collection.

Our team of heritage scientists used 3D laser scanning to capture 3D data and create digital 3D models of selected items in the collection. This data is an important part in our scientific research and will help us to better understand these historic garments.
