Child's Coronation Dress

This dress was worn by a child in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. 

Clothing, along with other memorabilia such as commemorative porcelain, medallions and postage stamps, were produced to mark important events like the coronation.

The pattern of the cotton fabric features illustrations depicting the events of the coronation in great detail, including: The Queen on a throne.

Buckingham Palace with its gates open wide.

Westminster Abbey where the coronation ceremony takes place.

A Yeoman of the Guard, dressed in his Tudor uniform of red, white and yellow.

Playful dogs also feature, frolicking amongst the jubilant children.

This dress has been expertly made with care and consideration given to small details such as the three buttons that have been attached by individual red, white and blue thread to the front of the dress.
