Discover the secrets of Göbeklitepe

A masterpiece of stone and spirit

Göbeklitepe Archaeological Site is located 18 kilometers northeast of Şanlıurfa city center. The area was discovered in 1963 during a survey conducted in partnership with Istanbul and Chicago Universities and was defined as "V52 Neolithic Settlement".

Göbeklitepe is considered the oldest temple in the world, dating back to 9600 BC. There are 20 T-shaped columns in the area, approximately 12 meters in diameter and 5 meters in height. There are various animal figures and human hands on the columns.

The discovery of Göbeklitepe caused the rewriting of human history. It shows that even in the Stone Age, people had a complex culture and religious beliefs.

So far, 4 different areas have been unearthed in Göbeklitepe; T-shaped columns with animal figures were found on top of the structures.

Göbeklitepe, one of the most important finds of cultural heritage in Anatolia, is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
