Creation

The Filmoteca PUCP was officially born in 2004, based on the purchase of the documentary collection of the Filmoteca de Lima that took place a year earlier.

We are located on the second floor of 925 Tomás Ramsey St. in the district of Magdalena del Mar, Lima, next to the Institute of Democracy and Human Rights PUCP (IDEHPUCP).

Film archive

We have approximately 7,000 films in analog support, stored in more than 13,000 film reels of various formats and in different degrees of conservation.

These rolls have been ordered in three vaults properly climate controlled and monitored daily.

In our laboratory, we carry out an exhaustive description of each analog tape before a physical-chemical restoration: an essential and previous phase that prepares the films to be digitized.

We review, catalog and store DVD and Blu-Ray of national and international titles that have been donated or purchased.

The previous steps are part of an important process prior to digitizing our video file.

The Lima Film Library restored and re-released in 1995 the oldest peruvian film that has survived completely to the present day.

The work of a film archive is permanent, the fragility of the support with which we work imposes this rhythm on us and we know that if we do not preserve it, the memory that this support records will be lost forever.
