Discovering Sicilian light within the last Roman landscapes

Punta Corvo, Scicli

In 1969, Guccione built a summer house in Punta Corvo (Scicli), on the easternmost tip of Sicily. The poetic beauty of Sicilian light became a necessity for Guccione's eyes.

The form of Sicily’s luminosity thus begins to intertwine more and more with the desolation of the city, glimpsed from the window of his studio on via Flaminia in Rome.

In Rome I always felt as though I were only passing through and I always knew that I would return to Sicily through my painting.

But this wasn’t a conscious awareness. While I was there, I didn’t actually think about going back to Sicily.
