The mirror of memory
In 1968, Piero Guccione exhibited works from his Reflected City series at the Galleria Il Gabbiano in Rome: landscapes reflected on the bodywork of his famous Volkswagen. The evocative images reflected on the black metal prompted him to capture the beauty of a lost memory.
"Within the act of painting"
In the introductory text to the exhibition, art critic Luigi Carluccio writes: ‘I have always been attracted to Guccione's work by the feeling that he placed himself and openly showed his desire to place himself within the act of painting, even before the painting itself.’

I painted the landscapes reflected on the car bodies as naturally as I would paint any traditional landscape,

in order to give the surfaces a plastic consistency
