Born in Taubaté, São Paulo, Monteiro Lobato is one of Brazil's greatest writers in the children's genre. He is the author of the renowned "Sítio do Pica-Pau Amarelo" series, with more than 23 titles.

Manuel Bandeira (1886-1968)     

Writer, poet, chronicler and teacher, Manuel Bandeira from Pernambuco is one of the great names in modern Brazilian poetry. He wrote the poem "Os Sapos" (The Frogs), recited during the 1922 Modern Art Week, and "Itinerário de Pasárgada" (1954).

Cora Coralina (1889-1985)     

Born in Goiás (GO), Ana Lins dos Guimarães Peixota Bretas was a poet and short story writer. She released her first book, "O Poema dos Becos de Goiás e Estórias Mais", at the age of 75.

She is the author of "Meu Livro de Cordel" (1976) and "Estórias da Casa Velha da Ponte" (1985). In 1989, her house became the Cora Coralina House Museum.

Oswald de Andrade (1890-1954)     

Writer, he was one of the organizers of the Week of Modern Art of 1922 and the Pau-Brasil movement. Author of "Manifesto Antropofágico", "Serafim Ponte Grande" (1933) and the play "O Rei da Vela" (1937).

A native of São Paulo, he was one of the organizers of the Week of Modern Art in 1922.

Cecília Meireles (1901-1964)     

Writer, journalist, teacher and poet, Cecília Meireles was born in Rio de Janeiro. She is the author of "Mar Absoluto e Outros Poemas" (1945), "Romanceiro da Inconfidência" (1953) and "Quadrante" (1962).

Poet and translator Mario Quintana, born in Alegrete (RS), is the author of "Caderno H" (1973). His first book, "A Rua dos Cataventos", was published in 1940.

A writer from Bahia, he is one of the most important representatives of Northeastern literature.

"Gabriela, Cravo e Canela" (1958), "Capitães de areia" (1937), "Dona Flor e seus Dois Maridos" (1966), "Tieta do Agreste" (1977), among others, are some of his works adapted for theater, cinema and TV. He received an honorary doctorate from the Sorbonne in 1998.

The writer and composer from Minas Gerais is the author of "O Quarto de Despejo: Diário de uma Favelada" (1960) and the novel "Pedaços de Fome" (1963). A garbage collector and resident of the Canindé favela in São Paulo, she is one of Brazil's most important black writers.
