Building a movement to end extreme poverty by Ryan MuirUnited Nations Climate Change Conference COP26
Global Citizen's mission
Global Citizen’s mission is to build the largest movement of action taking Global Citizens to end extreme poverty. Read on to find out why combating climate change is vital to our aim of defeating poverty, and how Global Citizens are taking action to defend our planet.
Poverty and Climate Change
On our platform, Global Citizens learn about and take action on issues surrounding poverty, including how it is closely linked to climate.
Climate change is aggravating poverty. According to the UN, it will push up to 132 million people into extreme poverty by 2030.
Vulnerable Communities are hit the hardest
From severe droughts and fierce storms to blistering heat waves, poorer groups tend to live in the areas that are more exposed to climate change. Lacking resilient infrastructures and resources, impoverished communities face an amplified struggle to overcome extreme weather.

Defending the planet and defeating poverty
It’s vital that Global Citizens work together to combat both climate change and poverty.
If we invest in mitigating climate change, we will inevitably reduce poverty; if we work to reduce poverty we will also help protect people from climate change.
How to take action with us
With our digital platform and app, you can take action to help end the vicious poverty cycle that climate change is imposing on poorer nations.
That’s why defending the planet is intrinsic to our aim of eradicating extreme poverty by 2030.
