Introducing the Basilica

Rising over 30 meters in height the Basilica is built of 50 tons of steel shipped from Belgium in the 1800's.
Filipino Artistry
The interior of the church is painted to look like stone and features a variety of paintings done with the Trompe-l'œil technique to give the illusion of three dimensions.
Conservation Challenges
Today, the steel basilica faces new challenges, including corrosion from salt air from Manila Bay and water infiltration evidence of which is especially visible in the ornate dome.
