The future written on stone.
Evocava is a training and cultural project that provides for the creation of a museum as a device for the protection, enhancement and incremental promotion of the historical and natural heritage of the quarries of Mazara. The project won the fourth edition of the national Culturability call, which aims to promote innovative initiatives in the field of high-impact urban regeneration.
An unexpressed heritage
Mazara, a city without a park, the quarries occupy about 100 thousand square meters, developing a complex system of parks, galleries, caves and gardens. The oldest date back to the same foundation of the city, and are part of the urban peripheral fabric, about 1 km from the city center.the lack of incentives and poor planning leave these places unused and at risk of building speculation. Periferica carries out, since 2013, a path of analysis and enhancement of these places, experimenting with new ways of reactivation together with universities, associations and companies.
The risks
The absence of incentives and poor planning leave these places unused and at risk of building speculation. Periferica carries out, since 2013, a path of analysis and enhancement of these places, experimenting with new ways of reactivation together with universities, associations and companies.
The hidden treasure
The quarries are a great opportunity. We want to enhance the heritage through a new educational, tourist and cultural offer, which places these places at the center of new positive dynamics of territorial development.
The phases
Two key operations: the creation of a museum and the promotion of tourist-cultural itineraries. We want to trigger a gradual, incremental and inclusive regeneration process that involves both professionals and residents.
The Museum
The first cultural park of Mazara, managed by Periferica. It houses the Museum, from which guided tours start, eleads to the cathedral underground, the underground quarry bigger than Mazara.
The Pact of the Quarries
To give substance and form to the intents shared by the owners,we conceived the Pact of the Quarries, a manifesto that recognizes the historical and cultural value of the quarries in the neighborhood withthe objective of enhancing them through sustainable methods and innovative. The document, which aims to involve other owners,is the first step towards the possible expansion of the network of private and of the itinerary.
The Regeneration Fund
Evocava wants to promote a process of urban regeneration shared and stimulate new visions of development of the neighborhood.
The Regeneration Fund
Through the establishment of a regeneration fund, 20% of the Revenues will be invested in the research and mapping process gradual quarrying, as well as the coverage of works by extraordinary maintenance of the assets.
