Cinderella

Created for Australian Ballet in 1997, Stanton Welch's Cinderella is a masterful retelling of the Brothers Grimm fairytale. In Welch's version, Cinderella takes control of her own destiny leading to a surprising twist on the classic fairytale.

Stanton Welch's La Bayadere was first choreographed for Houston Ballet in 2010. Welch's production is known for its vibrant visuals, dramatic storytelling, and iconic "Kingdom of the Shades" scene. Featuring designs by the acclaimed Peter Farmer, it is a masterful retelling of a classic ballet.

Madame Butterfly

First choreographed in 1995 for the Australian Ballet, Madame Butterfly is an adaptation of Giacomo Puccini's opera by the same name. With designs by Peter Farmer, Madame Butterfly has become one of Stanton Welch's signature works.

This three-act narrative ballet choreographed by Stanton Welch AM premiered with Houston Ballet in 2009. Delving into the complex life of Marie Antoinette, with musical score by Dmitri Shostakovich and designs by Kandis Cook, this work is a perfect example of Welch's storytelling ability.

The Nutcracker

Premiering with Houston Ballet in 2016, Welch's The Nutcracker is a Houston holiday staple. Set to Tschaikovsky's beloved score with designs by Tim Goodchild, this ballet tells the story of Clara and her beloved Nutcracker as they embark on a magical journey.

Romeo and Juliet

Stanton Welch's Romeo and Juliet premiered with Houston Ballet in 2015 with a captivating score by composer Sergei Prokofiev and designs by Roberta Guidi di Bagno. While still faithful to the original Shakespeare play, Welch's version incorporates his own signature flair as well.

Swan Lake (2023) by Amitava Sarkar and Stanton Welch AMHouston Ballet

Swan Lake

First seen in 2006 when it premiered in Houston, Texas, Stanton Welch's Swan Lake offers a fresh retelling of the classic tale. Showcasing designs by New Zealand-born designer Kristian Fredrikson, this ballet was one of the last works Fredrikson created before he passed in 2005.

Sylvia (2022) by Amitava Sarkar and Stanton Welch AMHouston Ballet

Sylvia

A 2019 co-production between Houston Ballet and the Australian Ballet, this work showcases Greek Mythology throughout the narrative. With a score by Léo Delibes, designs by Jérôme Kaplan, lighting by Lisa Pinkham, and projections by Wendall K. Harrington.
