Creation

The Filmoteca PUCP was officially born in 2004, based on the purchase of the documentary collection of the Filmoteca de Lima that took place a year earlier.

We are located on the second floor of 925 Tomás Ramsey St. in the district of Magdalena del Mar, Lima. Next to the  Instituto de Democracia y Derechos Humanos PUCP (IDEHPUCP).

Film archive

We have approximately 7,000 films on analog media stored in more than 13,000 rolls of film of various formats, and with different degrees of conservation.

These are located along three vaults properly climatized and daily monitored.

We treasure important frames and images related to the production of numerous national and international productions.

Bibliographic archive

We guard a large number of books, magazines and brochures on cinema and audiovisual in Peru and the world. Many of these titles have been donated by the filmmakers themselves.

Likewise, the hand programs of film cycles, festivals and presentations are an outstanding part of our archive due to their unique value.

We protect a valuable amount of material that documents the production processes of important cinematographic creations that have been carried out in our country.

Currently, we are working in person around our film and video archives.

Filmic

In our laboratory we carry out an exhaustive description of each analog tape before a physical-chemical restoration. An essential and preliminary phase, which prepares the films to be digitized.

Video

We review, catalog and store DVD and Blu-Ray of national and international titles that have been donated and purchased.

"Yo perdí mi corazón en Lima" (1933)

The Lima Film Library restored and re-released in 1995 the oldest peruvian film that has survived completely to the present day.

Our laboratory covers at a minimum the physical-chemical restoration processes that film conservation demands.

Since the films themselves, but also all material associated with film production, constitutes a valuable source for the history, both of the cinema, and in general for the history of Peru.

And if we had equipment for digitizing films, we would have the capacity to recover valuable material from our historical memory.
