Spanning the period from 1983 to the present day, Stories of the Collection summarises key moments in the formation of the Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) Collection. Across distinct points and through the presentation of its most important acquisitions, we follow the desires, tastes, policies and circumstances of each specific moment of the collection’s development: The Decorative Collection (1983-89); The Art Collection (1990-97); Diversification (2000-04); Photographs (1991 and 2004); Precision (2004-08 and 2014); Prints (2007); Donations and Bequests (1967-2021); Resuming Acquisitions (2020-21); New Acquisitions: renowned artists (2022 and 2023); New Acquisitions: mid-career artists (2022 and 2023); Caixa Contest for Young Artists (2022 and 2023).

In 2023 it was possible to favour the acquisition of works by artists in mid-career, which were not yet represented in the Collection and who had solo exhibitions in Culturgest – Lisbon, namely: Ana Santos (Espinho, Portugal, 1982) and Sónia Almeida (Lisbon, Portugal, 1978). As part of this process, both artists donated additional works to the Collection, thus expanding their representation.

In order to consolidate the group of works by Bruno Pacheco (Lisbon, Portugal, 1974), the institution also acquired a painting from this artist, adding it to other works already belonging to the Collection: Studio Ashtray (2005); 25 meters of piece (2005); Happy Hour #2 (2005); Acrobat balancing the cornets (2005); Sinking line (2009); Self-portrait with blue ballon (2002); Self-portrait as a swing (2005); Self-portrait smoking a cigar without the aid of the hands (2005).
