Each year, new categories are included. The 24th edition, that took place in 2023, included 56 awards, divided into 20 categories designated according to musical style: pop, rock, urban, singer-songwriter, instrumental...

Every year, the most highly anticipated awards are those in the general category, which include: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist; regardless of the musical genre.

The awards process

Phase 1 – Registration

The awards process begins with the registration of the best recordings and videos released between June of the previous year and March of the current year, by the members of the Latin Recording Academy and the record companies.

Phase 2 – Review

A team of 100 experts reviews all the registered pieces to ensure that they meet the specific requirements and that they have been appropriately placed in the different categories: urban, rock, tropical, jazz, Brazilian...

Phase 3 – Nomination

The first round of voting involves the members of the Latin Academy, who vote in the categories they are experts in, with a maximum of 15. All members can vote in the general categories.

Special nomination committees are set up in categories that reward certain trades and specialties within the industry. All votes are collected and analyzed by Deloitte, an independent auditor.

Stage 4 – Final vote

After the different processes and nominations, the voting members of the Latin Recording Academy vote for the finalists and the winner of each category is decided by the final count.
