The Nebrija Educational Project has its origins in the Centro de Estudios Hispánicos, founded in 1985. This first institution, created by Manuel Villa-Cellino and Belén Moreno de los Ríos with the collaboration of academics and intellectuals, was the seed of the current Nebrija University.
Nebrija University has two main commitments to society: to train excellent professionals capable of leading interdisciplinary teams, and to research and generate knowledge in specific areas to contribute to the progress of society.
Nebrija University's educational model is based on academic excellence, internationalization, and pedagogical innovation. It is committed to practical teaching: "learning by doing".
The Nebrija Foundation
The mission of the Nebrija Foundation is to contribute to the improvement of Spanish and international society through the promotion of activities related to university teaching and research.
It has promoted, together with other institutions, the creation, implementation and official recognition of the University of Nebrija. It promotes scholarships for students in all types of educational programs and contributes to the creation of agreements with prestigious companies.
The Foundation also develops research projects and collaborates with other companies and institutions in the fields of linguistics, Spanish teaching methodology, social, legal and economic sciences, communication sciences, and engineering.
V Centenary of Antonio de Nebrija
It was an initiative promoted by the Nebrija Foundation to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of the great Spanish exponent of humanism. The political agreement allowed this event to be declared an "event of exceptional public interest" by the Spanish Congress.
Nebrija Spanish Language Observatory
Created within the framework of the celebrations of the V Centenary of Nebrija, but with a permanent vocation. It works to broaden the horizon of the use and projection of the Spanish language in the world, through the elaboration of scientific analyses and the presentation of proposals.
The Observatory conducts research in different areas: The relationship between language and migratory movements; Language as a driving factor in the internationalization of companies; The path of cultural industries that have Spanish as their main support; or Policies and strategies for the promotion of Spanish on a global scale.
The Observatory is the result of the collaboration of academics from different universities in Spain, Europe and the Americas with representatives from different cultural industries. This makes it a unique meeting point between academics and professionals.

How this institution is bringing Spanish language and culture to the world
There are different organizations that are essential for preserving, spreading, teaching and promoting Spanish at a national and international level. One of the most important institutions for Spanish in this regard is the Cervantes Institute.
What is the Cervantes Institute?
In March 1991, the Spanish Government inaugurated the Cervantes Institute, a public body linked to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union, and Cooperation.
It was founded with the aim of universally promoting the teaching, study, and use of Spanish, and contributing to the promotion of Hispanic cultures abroad.
Outside of Spain, the Cervantes Institute is the official reference institution for teaching and learning the Spanish language, as well as the other co-official languages of Spain.
Today it has a brand of quality and prestige, and its initiatives are aimed at promoting Hispanic culture.
After three decades of activity, the Cervantes Institute has 100 offices spread over all five continents, consolidating itself as an instrument of cultural diplomacy.
What does the Cervantes Institute do?
The Cervantes Institute organizes courses for learning Spanish as a foreign language, and also trains the teachers who are in charge of this teaching.
It organizes the exams of the SIELE certificate (International Service for the Evaluation of the Spanish Language) and those of the DELE diploma, which officially accredits the knowledge of Spanish according to the levels established by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
The test of Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain (CCSE) for those who want to obtain residency in Spain is also carried out by the Cervantes Institute.
At its different offices, activities related to literature, art, cinema, music, theater, dance, science, and history are organized in different formats in order to share the culture of Spain and Latin America with the whole world.
Why is the Cervantes Institute important?
It is the institution of reference par excellence in the teaching and certification of the Spanish language, while promoting cultural events that reinforce and spread this culture throughout the world.
Spanish is the language of a diverse and immensely culturally rich community, and the Cervantes Institute is responsible for transmitting the values and characteristics of the Hispanic community to give it a global presence.
The Cervantes Institute is a key institution for forming alliances and actively contributes to making Spanish a language of the future, promoting its presence in the arts, science, and technology.
