Walking around the University of Brasilia - Part 2

The Rectory was designed by Paulo de Melo Zimbres in collaboration with Érico Paulo Siegmar Weidle, Josué de Carvalho Macedo, and Vera Lúcia Braun Galvão. Construction took place between 1972 and 1975. It is located in the Central Sector of the Darcy Ribeiro University Campus. 

Ninety-six equal rhombuses make up the surface of this hollow volume in a demonstration of mastery of geometry, something its creator demanded of his students at the School of Architecture and Planning at Brasilia University, where he taught until 1997. 

The architect Lelé tells us that Darcy asked him to add a Beijódromo to the program, a kind of arena where people could discuss ideas during the day, and that at night it could be used for serenades where couples could fall in love and kiss passionately.

The upper surface has a reinforced concrete slab supported by 32 radial metal beams fixed to metal bollards, positioned at the periphery of the building and, in the center, an internal ring that distributes the load to 8 tubular metal columns.

Designed by Léo Bonfim Júnior and Alberto Fernando Xavier, with the collaboration of Sólon Leão P. de Souza and landscaping by José Paulo de Bem. The project dates from 1968, and construction was carried out in 1970.
