At the James Monroe Museum, you can explore the life and legacy of one of our nation's most popular and respected public servants. The museum is the largest repository in the country of artifacts and documents related to the fifth president of the United States, on the site where he practiced law in the 1780s. Opened in 1928 by Monroe descendants to showcase a collection handed down through generations of the family, the museum today is a National Historic Landmark administered by the University of Mary Washington.
