The roots
The Salón Tenampa originated in 1925 in Mexico City when Juan Inaldecio Hernández Ibarra decided to open a business similar to the one he had in Guadalajara in anticipation of success in the country's capital.

A place that screams Viva Mexico!
The Salón Tenampa has a main lounge, terrace and the La Negra lounge. It is a place that has grown over time, but it has the special feature that it is one of the few establishments in Mexico City that has never moved or changed place in 96 years.

The perfect location
Located in Plaza Garibaldi, between calle Honduras and Eje Central, it is part of the city center. No wonder that from its terrace you can appreciate nothing more or less than the Latin American Tower which was, at the time, the highest in the country.
The cradle of Mariachi
It is impossible to talk about the Salón Tenampa without mentioning Mariachi. Two Mexican symbols with a shared destiny, from their beginnings.

The essence of Mariachi
During the 1920s they were not allowed to play everywhere, however, Juan Indalecio Hernández invited Concho Andrade, one of the most iconic Mariachis in the world, to play. From there the Mariachi never separated from the Salón Tenampa.

Mariachis

Walls that saw the Pastora de los Reyes and Pablo Mendoza
The Tenampa saw part of the filming of the famous film 'You had to be a gypsy' with Pedro Infante and Carmen Sevilla. The golden age of cinema at its best.

Let the Moon go down, let the Sun come up
They say in the Tenampa that José Alfredo Jiménez used to go to the bar and that the painting in which he is painted was the place where he used to sit and write songs on napkins.

Mexicans are born where we are given the…
There is a story that says that Chavela Vargas and José Alfredo Jiménez left the place without any alcohol.

For posterity
Past and present, the Salón Tenampa is connected to celebrities. Even in recent years films such as Love at First Sight with Jaime Camil have been filmed.
At Tenampa you eat well
But the charm does not end with the Mariachi and the stories, if there is something good about this place—and which is characteristic—it is the food. You can find numerous dishes such as enchiladas, carnitas (pulled pork), tacos de cochinita (slow-roasted pork tacos), chamorro food and the specialty of the house, the birria (stew).
The history of Mexico on four walls
Whether it's birria (stew), tequila or the walls, the Salón Tenampa tells the story of Mexico. That golden age and the rhythms of the Mariachi. It's the heart of Mexican and an experience you can't miss.
