The 3DOM research unit of FBK Trento is actively involved in accurate measurements and reality-based 3D reconstruction problems like digital 3D modelling of dinosaur footprints by photogrammetry and laser scanning techniques.

This is our 3D reconstruction of the renowned sarcophagus of the spouses, an Etruscan terracotta artifact dating back to the 6th century BC.

We are working on the optimization and development of methods and tools for virtual reconstruction and visualization of natural and man-made sites or objects.

SLICE3D - SLovenIan Centre of Excellence on 3D geodata - is a WIDESPREAD EU H2020 project aiming at the realization of a Centre of Excellence on 3D/4D geospatial data in Slovenia.

Dynamic Light is an Interreg - Central Europe project which focusses on reduction of CO2-emissions and enhancement of energy efficiency in public lighting.

Oblique Aerial Cameras (OAC) investigates the potentialities of OAC systems for building 3D reconstruction, cadaster applications, structural damage classification, land administration services, etc.

BOOSTEE-CE aims to improve the governance of energy efficiency in existing public buildings and reduce energy consumption in central Europe, especially in areas less advanced in low carbon approach.

Let's have now an overview on some recent projects within the CULTURAL HERITAGE DOMAIN

REPLICATE (cReative-asset harvEsting PipeLine to Inspire Collective-AuThoring and Experimentation) develops a multi-user, 3D-acquisition platform to transform the real-world into new creative-assets.

Multispectral imaging are acquired and processed in the heritage and agricultural field to derive "invisible" information useful for better investigations, restoration, precision farming, etc.

Using FBK scanning technology, experts 3D scanned an ancient monument in Bologna, preserving it digitally forever, and making it accessible to scientists and the public, worldwide.

Automation in photogrammetric 3D reconstruction: image quality is a must to produce successful, photo-realistic 3D products; We investigate a productive pre-processing strategy for 3D reconstructions.

Through 3D models and Virtual Reality tools, VirtualArch project contributes to a sustainable use and protection of non-visible and little known archaeological heritage underground or submerged.

Among the various activities carried out by 3DOM team, let us recall the underwater photogrammetry 3D survey of June 2012 of the crack of COSTA CONCORDIA cruise.

In 2018 we've hosted ISPRS Photogrammetry Symposium on geometric, radiometric and multi-temporal aspects of image- and range-based 3D surveying and modeling.
