Artisanal activities and know-how of making and using objects are passed through generations, such as painting or caulking a vessel, sailing, sewing nets, among others, which change over the years and constitute the daily work of the fisherman on land and at sea.

The sails of the caicos have masts that reach eight metres height, while the latch is up to nine metres wide. Added to this, there are the bowline, the drop pole and the steering oar, essential for navigation.

Fishermen tend to associate different types of materials to solve their needs. The constant use of recyclables for the manufacture of vessels and objects during navigation and artisanal fishing can be seen in the details.

In Jardim Manguinhos, boats are capsized to be repaired or painted. The manufacture and restoration of artisanal fishing gear or navigation are commonplace activities to which the residents of the neighbourhood are used to.
