The exhibition 'DŌ: The Path to Virtue' unveils the history, technique, and philosophy of six Japanese martial arts, and highlights the main elements, movements, and concepts of Aikidō, Kendō, Karatedō, Judō, Sumō, and Kyudō.
Through the philosophy of Budō, a term that refers to martial arts, stories and curiosities of these six sports are presented, emphasizing characteristics common to all, such as personal discipline and spiritual growth.
Discipline as a way of life
More than a sport, practitioners of Budô-based martial arts have a unique lifestyle, which is grounded on discipline and on an effort to unify mind and body.
“The philosophical and moral precepts, the demeanor of Budo practitioners, are conveyed and perpetuated to develop body and mind with the same importance, the outcome of a lot of discipline and dedication." - says JHSP Cultural Director Natasha Barzaghi Geenen.
She continues:
“It is a key theme to convey some of the Japanese spirit and, within the perspective of the next major world sporting events, with DŌ - The Path to Virtue we started a series of presentations to showcase these practices.”
