"Equilibrium", an original installation developed by the Japanese duo DAISY BALLOON, known for works of great visual impact that enchant around the world, was on display at Japan House São Paulo in 2021.

Rie Hosokai, an artist specializing in balloons; and Takashi Kawada, art director and graphic designer, were inspired by the cycles of nature to create the work that transformed over the weeks, marking the inevitability of the passage of time.

Immersive experience

With more than 9,000 balloons, 11 meters long and over three meters high, the work features balloons developed in conjunction with Yokohama Balloon Co. Ltd.

The balloons, covered with an outer layer of polarized film, allow that, when light falls on the installation, a spectrum of immanent colors is revealed in space in an effect similar to that of the aurora borealis.

"The form of the installation suggests the course of the water cycle, as if the balloons were droplets of water and clouds rising in the air to turn into rain and precipitate back to the ground", explains Natasha Barzaghi Geenen, exhibition curator and Cultural Director from JHSP.

About the Japanese duo

DAISY BALLOON, created in 2008 by Rie Hosokai and Takashi Kawada, creates several works made with balloons, aiming, with its theme, to sharpen human perception and explore different materialities.
