The Carakana intitative and the role of cross stitching

The story of nature is told to us by members of Carakana - a social enterprise which facilitates the transfer and preservation of indigenous skills and cross stitching through the production of quality handmade items. This story outlines the role cross stitch has played in the lives of vulnerable women.

"I am Sarah, a  separated  mother of two, currently imprisoned. I am grateful I can take care of my children and through this, I can give them the best and they can grow to have better opportunities than those that I had. Thank you Carakana."

Recreational Therapy

 "My name is Tabby and I am a recovering alcoholic .We are so grateful for this initiative because it keeps us engaged through the day and it keeps us from relapsing. I will continue with cross-stitching even after my time here to keep on the sober path. Thank you Carakana!"

Determined To Succeed

"I am Anita, a person living with albinism. My experience was difficult because the stitches were still new to me and at the same time, I was taking care of my twin daughters. I used the money paid to take care of my kids as well as stock my salon. Thanks Carakana."

Answered Prayer

"My name is Alice a mother to three, I am living with disability. Cross stitching has been an answered prayer for us and our families because we are able to make ends meet, after attending to our businesses,  in the evening we converge and stitch. May  God Bless Carakana!"
