Rubem Fonseca (1925-2020)

A native of Juiz de Fora, the writer became known for his seclusion. Author of classics such as “Feliz Ano Novo” (1975) and “A Grande Arte” (1983), he received the Camões Prize in 2003. In 2015, he was awarded the Machado de Assis Prize by the Brazilian Academy of Letters.

Carlos Heitor Cony (1926-2018)

Carioca, journalist and writer, he wrote novels, chronicles and short stories. He is the author of “A Verdade de Cada Dia” (1959), “O Ato e o Fato” (1964), and “Almost Memória” (1995), for which he received the Jabuti Prize in 1996. At Folha, he was a member of the Editorial Board and columnist.

Ariano Suassuna (1927-2014)

Pernambucano, he is one of the great names in northeastern culture. Creator of the Armorial Movement, he is the author of “Auto da Compadecida” (1955), a work adapted for theater, TV and cinema, “Farsa da Boa Preguiça” (1960) and “Romance d'A Pedra do Reino e o Príncipe do Sangue do Vai-e-Volta” (1971).

From the city of Jaú in São Paulo, she is one of the great names in poetry. She wrote “Fições” (1977), “Cantares de Perda e Predileção” (Jabuti Award 1984), “A Obscena Senhora D” (1982) and “O Caderno Rosa de Lori Lamby” (1990).

From Maranhão, José de Ribamar Ferreira, poet, art critic and essayist, is the author of “Dentro da Noite Veloz” (1975), “Na Vertigem do Dia” (1980) and “Many Vozes” (1999). “Poema Sujo” (1976) is considered his masterpiece. In 2010 he received the Camões Prize.

Gaucho from Porto Alegre, doctor and writer. One of the great names in contemporary Brazilian literature, he wrote novels, short stories, chronicles and children's fiction. Author of “A Guerra no Bom Fim” (1972) and “Sonhos Tropicais” (1992), among others. He was a columnist for Folha.

A novelist, poet and fiction writer from Minas Gerais, she is the first black woman to be elected to the Minas Gerais Academy of Letters.
