The prize

Best LibertyCity is an institutional recognition issued every year by "Italia Liberty" to the municipal administration that has been able to promote, protect and disseminate its cultural heritage. The jury also takes into account other selection criteria.

The jury

The choice of the best Liberty city of the year is decided by a jury composed of internal members of the Italia Liberty association, promoting body and external professionals who, on the basis of the information and contents collected, identify the winner municipality.

The beginning of the institutional award

It was the year 2015 when the president of Italia Liberty thought of an institutional award to be given to public administrations for their commitment to Culture, especially that of Liberty.

All citizens and municipal administrations themselves can send the documents on public and private interventions, events carried out during the year and all the information necessary for the nomination for the "Best LibertyCity" award to the secretariat of the award.

2016 - CATANIA

Every year a public administration is awarded. The first to have this honor was the city of Catania, in the Sicily Region. The mayor in office, Enzo Bianco withdrew the plaque of honor together with the municipal council and all the collaborators.

2017 - SARNICO

The following year the Municipality of Sarnico in the province of Bergamo withdrew the high honor. City notoriously devoted to Liberty with the villas designed by Giuseppe Sommaruga. The first citizen Giorgio Bertazzoli will collect the plate.

2018 - VARESE

Mayor Davide Galimberti received the award at the third edition. Varese opened the Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori after five decades of closure, where the exhibition on Giuseppe Sommaruga - Liberty architect - curated by Vittorio Sgarbi and Andrea Speziali was set up.

2019 - BARI

With great amazement for the citizens of Bari, the mayor Antonio Decaro and the councilor for culture Ines Pierucci collected the Award for the public works carried out and the commitment of associations that have rediscovered the Liberty with promotional activities.

The restoration of Villa Zanelli

How to apply

Citizens of and non-citizens of the city that is applying, like the public administrations themselves, can send photos, documents and relevant information to the secretariat of the award in order to nominate the Municipality for the "Best LibertyCity" Award.

The award ceremony

When November or December arrives according to the decision times, the jury united with the association decides the date and place of the award ceremony. Once the winning Municipality has been contacted, an agreement is made for the ceremony which is often hosted.
