With a process of constant juxtapositions and subtraction
the artist transforms the ashes of photography, as commonly understood. His work is the consequence of a constant dialogue with the imagery.
Calabrese deconstructs images, blurring the borders of the figurative representation and bringing them to a life of similarity and dissimilarity in a sort of vicious circle.
In the series “A Failed Entertainment” the artist decides to sacrifice his own role as author of the work, delegating the choice of those photographs found online that make up the final work to software.
While in "The Long Thing", Calabrese abandons the camera once again, going back to ‘writing with light’ through the use of a scanner: files, folders, elastic bands, sticky tape, squared paper and documents are transformed through movements, shifts and mechanical action.
