Paulistania (jan-jun 1954) by UnidentifiedCentro de Memória-Unicamp
The Constitutionalist Movement of 1932 ended up unleashing a series of cults to its acts and characters that persist to this day in people's imagination. Despite being defeated, the State of São Paulo opted for a somewhat unexpected stance.
A state holiday with the right to commemorations and cult events to those considered heroes of the movement, the people of São Paulo made a point of remembering it, with emphasis on the commemorations held in the IV Centenary of the city of São Paulo.
90 years after its event, the movement's memory was materialized both in the collection of items collected by hundreds of people, including documents, including photos, newspapers, objects and weapons, produced and used during and after the conflict, as well as in the memory of the combat dead. A true ode to the Constitutionalist Soldier was born here.

There were several cities in São Paulo that highlighted the cult of 1932. In Campinas, for example, there were intense mobilizations for the construction of a mausoleum to house the remains of the 34 volunteers from Campinas who died in combat.

The Tomb Monument to the Volunteers of 1932 was inaugurated only on July 9, 1935, with a design by Marcelino Velez.

In front of the monument there is a statue of a constitutionalist soldier, with a coat of arms of Campinas and verses by the poet Guilherme de Almeida from Campinas. In the other 16 columns, the names of a Campinas soldier killed in combat are engraved.
In the CMU collection can be found several collections that have, interspersed, the theme of the 1932 Movement. There are photographs, handwritten and printed documents, posters, newspapers, objects, weapons and insignia that correspond to records of the past and the construction of a heroic and thriving São Paulo memory.

In these 90 years of stories and memories, many of them immortalized in the memories of the few combatants still alive and in the vast material culture, it is worth reflecting on the role of the 1932 Movement for the symbolic construction of the State of São Paulo.
