The chapel was originally built for the religious services of the Baron de Nova Friburgo's family. At the time of the Presidency of the Republic, it was used as a visiting room, returning to function as a chapel during the funeral of President Afonso Pena in 1909.
On the ceiling of the chapel, there is a copy of the painting "Imaculada Conceição dos Venerables" (1678), by the Spanish Murillo, reproduced here by an unknown artist. The original painting is in the Prado Museum (Spain).
