The chapel was originally built for the religious services of the Baron de Nova Friburgo's family. At the time of the Presidency of the Republic, it was used as a visiting room, returning to function as a chapel during the funeral of President Afonso Pena in 1909.
Also on the ceiling, another copy made by an unknown painter, inspired by the painting "Transfiguration" (1518-1520) by the Italian Raphael, whose original is in the Vatican.
