Cracovian nativity scenes captivate us, bring smiles to our faces, bring us joy and take us to a magical world of the imagination. 

They are a symbol of festive Krakow, and thanks to a joint initiative between KBF and the Museum of Kraków, we have been admiring them in the city space since 2015.

Each year, from early December until the end of January, we can marvel at nativity scenes made for past competitions, as well as those commissioned especially for the occasion. 

Each nativity scene is unique, and traditional elements are frequently accompanied by references to current events. Each construction has its own history which we learn during themed guided walks and engaging urban games.

In 2018, when temperatures dropped below zero, KBF prepared an ice skating rink in the heart of Kazimierz – perfect for fans of winter sports to glide around and admire demonstrations of figure skating.

Over the years, KBF has held many events in the district, including celebrations of Hanukkah (with the Galicia Jewish Museum and the Jewish Cultural Festival) and an exhibition exploring the history of Jewish sports club prepared by the Historical Museum of the City of Krakow.

Once a quarter, the ICE Kraków Congress Centre turns into a multistorey playground, hosting myriad attractions for families with children for four hours.
 

During the event, young Cracovians and visitors take part in artistic and culinary workshops, physical activities and demonstrations by emergency services organised by KBF and co-hosted with Kraków5020 since November 2022.

Alchemists, comedians, courtiers, knights, falconers, artisans… We encountered them all at the foot of Wawel Hill during St. John’s Fair, exploring the history of Renaissance Poland and Europe and organised by the City of Krakow and KBF until 2021.

Krakow abounds with sausage dogs and their owners, and they flock to the annual Dachshund Parade co-organised with Radio Kraków until 2019.
 
As well as the pageant and competitions, you can seek advice from canine experts and even adopt a pet from the local shelter.

Festivals organised by KBF frequently leave a permanent mark on the city. A great example is the colourful staircase at Tatrzańska Street, prepared in 2013 as part of the ArtBoom Visual Arts Festival.

In 2021, the staircase was renovated and adorned with excerpts from 32 authors with close links to Krakow, including Zbigniew Wodecki, Wisława Szymborska, Sławomir Mrożek, Stanisław Lem, Jerzy Plich, Czesław Miłosz and Stanisław Wyspiański.
