Einblicke in die Sammlung Neue Meister

Die vielseitige Sammlung der Galerie Neue Meister, deren Beginn eng mit der Kunstsammlung der oldenburgischen Großherzoge und dem Wunsch des Bürgertums nach einer – von den herzoglichen Vorlieben unabhängigen – Staatlichen Galerie Neuerer Malerei verknüpft ist, hat sich in mehr als 100 Jahren zu einer bedeutenden Sammlung von internationalem Niveau entwickelt. Als das Landesmuseum im Oldenburger Schloss eröffnete, war die „Moderne Galerie“ der Sammlung, mit Werken des Expressionismus, ein identitätsstiftender Teil des Museums. Im Laufe der Jahrzehnte entstand eine umfassende Kollektion vor allem deutscher Kunst, vom Klassizismus bis in die Gegenwart, die durch gezielte Ankäufe und großzügige Schenkungen weiter gewachsen ist. Von Carus und Spitzweg über Böcklin, Feuerbach, Liebermann, Slevogt, Corinth, Beckmann, Kirchner, Heckel, Schmidt-Rottluff, Ernst und Radziwill bis zu Baumeister, Nay, Meistermann, Heisig und Stelzmann sind die bedeutenden Künstlerpositionen des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts im Landesmuseum vertreten. Die Skulpturensammlung umfasst herausragende Werke von Eberlein, Archipenko, Wauer, Sintenis, Mataré, Kollwitz und anderen.
