Silencio

I'm a photomontage artist from New York with ADD and Parkinson’s.

I wear a mask because the focus should be on the creation, not on the creator. I have no interest in becoming famous. I just want to do good work that touches people.

I go by Silencio...

because Parkinson's disease degenerates the muscles in the body, including the vocal cords, so I'm slowly losing my voice and eventually I'll become silent.

And before it silences me, I want to say everything I need to say.

I don’t feel like I’m the one creating the work anyway...

because it feels like it creates itself and I’m just the conduit it comes through.

Maidenhead (Chemo Dreams) (2021) by SilencioARTXV

Creating art...

lets my soul breathe. It makes me feel right in a way that nothing else does.

So if you're different, and you want to connect with the world, then consider expressing yourself creatively. The world needs to hear your message.

Neurodiversity to me...

is the reason we have art in the first place. Some of us are just wired to express ourselves differently than others.

Being a part of ARTXV allows me to support and encourage other neurodiverse and disabled artists, and learn from them, too.

Our challenges...

are there to help us, not to hold us back.

We’re all different from one another, and in that way, we’re the same.
