The Sanctuary
The gallery where the Bacubirito is located is called the Sanctuary. It is in the heart of the Museum. In this space, we can meet the optimum temperature and humidity control requirements for its conservation.
It is the longest meteorite ever discovered in the world. It is also the heaviest in Mexico and the sixth with more mass in all the earth. The Bacubirito weighs approximately 21 tons.
A farmer's group found it in 1863 near Bacubirito town in the municipality of Sinaloa - that's why it has that name.

It has a significant deterioration due to being outdoors for several decades. That's the reason why it is sheltered in this sanctuary within the Museum.
