Trapped is a common and often unsettling feeling. We can feel emotionally trapped by other’s expectations, and physically trapped by barriers. I began this collection with the first photograph of this series Dione by Danielle Kwaaitaal. I found the woman’s serene expression striking when contrasted with the flowing, yet ensnaring water around her. I decided to explore the theme of entrapment through different colors, styles and moods. The collection starts with darker representation of entrapment, as solitary figures feel lonely in an increasingly confusing world. This transitions to lighter colors and more literal view of being trapped through cages and snares. These representations continue throughout the collection in addition to religious and mythological entrapments, eventually ending on a serious tone of the effect of being trapped.
