Yellow (2020)Boreal Projects
Zona D, from Berlin, Germany; Lamosa, from Cuenca, Spain; and Yellow, from Comerio, Italy, are three spaces that participated in the fair under the tagline "social innovation" with a series of installed projects. Discover these projects and their areas of artistic exploration below.
Yellow
Yellow is an exploratory project, a vibrant space for painting, and a non-profit space centered around contemporary painting, which invites Italian and international artists to come together, interact, experiment, present, and discuss their own work. Founded in 2014 by artist Vera Portatadino, Yellow is currently co-directed by herself, Lucia Veronesi, Marco Salvetti, and Lorenzo Di Lucido.

The selection of these five artists—all co-directors of the project space—corresponds with Yellow's mission to provide a vision of contemporary Italian painting.

The drawings, installations, paintings, and ceramic pieces installed in the hotel room are the result of a reflection on the concept of expanded painting. The different focuses are also testament to current Italian practices in these media.
Zona D
Zona D is an initiative founded in 2012 with a flexible structure: they work as a collective, but they retain their freedom and recognize the potential of the individual. Zona D is an experiment that juxtaposes the system of capitalist values with the potential of the group; they are interested in open artwork and the processes of exploration and production.

The initiative explores the construction of the collective through collaborative practices. The results demonstrate what can be created in a community based on the concept of "politics of kindness" instead of "politics of power."
It is a participatory installation and conversation that uses video technology and virtual reality. The theme of love and virtuality is reflected through experimental chat communication.

"This space allows us to discover the shared void between two lovers in conversation. Everything is becoming more complex as information and communication technologies develop, creating a breeding ground for emotions of desire, projections of the future, the imagined body, and identity construction. The experience of connectedness can not only be obtained from physical connection, but also virtually."

The artist has decided to create this shared void through the use of myths about the sun: a metaphor and a way to reconstruct long-distance relationships and the imagined worlds that surround them.
This main narrative reflects the audience's own love stories experienced in the virtual world. A test of the viewer's awareness of how to acknowledge these narratives as part of their own post-digital identity without necessarily reducing them into the other.
Lamosa
Laboratorio Modulable Artístico is a self-managed collective dedicated to the production, management, and dissemination of emerging contemporary art. Its program includes exhibits, workshops, international calls for artists, concerts, audiovisual projections, poetry recitals, conferences, and artistic meetings.

Aguas del gran Sol (Waters of the Great Sun) , by Raúl Hidalgo (2005–20).
The project Waters of the Great Sun is, in the words of its creator, "a speculative story about the whereabouts of Bas Jan Ader." It is a project that develops in the form of an installation and consists of a series of texts, objects, photographs, videos, records, and speeches on location linked to one another to create a speculative, imagined story.
Artist Bas Jan Ader disappeared in 1975 while working on completing the second part of his project In Search of the Miraculous.
Raúl Hidalgo's interest in Bas Jan Ader stems from his exploration of the concept of uncertainty, born from his discovery of Ader's publication In Search of the Miraculous Discovery File in a Berlin library, 2006.
For Raul Hidalgo: "On the one hand, in this project it's possible to establish a series of interconnected relationships between exploration, materiality, and fiction…
…and on the other, it's a criticism of Ader's artwork itself turning into a mythological, speculative product."
Waters of the great sun 1 (2005/2020) by Raúl HidalgoBoreal Projects
Aguas del gran Sol (Waters of the Great Sun) , by Raúl Hidalgo (2005–20).
His interest lies in analyzing the change of direction that occurred in the body of his work. He elaborates an open project that—in accordance with the media through which it circulates—attempts to answer the epidemic questions in which it is immersed.
Raúl Hidalgo on his work:
"Creating an artistic approximation of the work of Bas Jan Ader—whose practical methods are charged with symbolism—ultimately lets me demonstrate the instability of the relationships and images itself and create new points of access to amplify its significant potential."
This exhibit was created in collaboration with Boreal Project for Hybrid Art Fair.. The international fair of contemporary art celebrated its fourth edition in the Hotel Petit Palace Santa Barbara, Madrid, from February 28 to March 1, 2020.
