Contemporary photography has always maintained a special place at Hybrid Art Fair. Over the years, the fair has become a unique attraction for fans of photographic art.
For 2020, submissions have been chosen that seek out a new way to view, and relate to, the world through this medium. Fotolateras (Valencia, Spain), Cobertura Photo (Seville, Spain), Mumaf (Manises, Spain), Lauwer (The Hague, Netherlands), Impulsarte (Madrid, Spain).
Cobertura Photo
Cobertura Photo is a space dedicated to photography and its relationship with other artistic disciplines; it is a meeting place and for photographic production. A center that teaches people to view and relate to the world through photography. Cobertura Photo centers its activities on training; it has a school where it runs a program of photography courses and workshops, covering everything from starting out to masterclasses with renowned photographers.

At the same time, it works as a collective, devising and developing pedagogical photography project. It does this independently, as well as in collaboration with other cultural institutions.

Fotolateras
Fotolateras is a collective working with the magic of pinhole photography. At Hybrid Art Fair, they are presenting "Negro, Rojo y Blanco" (Black, Red, and White), a touring exhibition project (Museum of Fine Arts in Castellón, 2018; Cervantes Institute, Tokyo, 2019). Using the three colors, it sets out a journey through three distinct zones representing the different stages of the photographic process.

Black represents the darkness necessary for developing or "cooking" the photos; the process whereby light meets dark to create the image.

Red alludes to the place where the magic happens: the laboratory. This is where the process of developing and printing the photo takes place.
White refers to the bright gallery, where the works appear framed within the series Ciudades enlatadas (Canned Cities), together with select pieces from the new collection of portraits, created using the pinhole technique.

MUMAF
MUMAF is an exhibition space within the Carlos Sanchis García museum collection, located in the building known as "El Arte." It is a beautifully restored space on the site of an old ceramics factory. Over 564 square feet, it houses one of the most significant camera collections in Spain and organizes temporary exhibitions. Plans are afoot to acquire artwork, principally in the field of photography, to create a unique hub for fans of photographic art.

A few years ago, after reading a study on Plato's allegory of the cave, Miguel started the project “P N T.” In it, he sums up the final chant of the idea, as if it were referencing a utopia: "And despite the shadows and existential crises, we shall find The Light."
Miguel explains his work: "Over time, the images evolved and mutated until they were more and more ambiguous, shifting from figurative to abstract. The work is a visual fantasy; a fusion of light and dark; an intense personal expression; a game of collusion…

Lauwer
Lauwer is a contemporary art gallery in The Hague, Netherlands. It represents artists who build bridges between their worlds and everyday life. Lauwer takes this approach in order to contribute to accessibility and diversity in the arts. With its exhibitions and activities, it demonstrates what art can do for fans of the discipline, collectors, and audiences new to the arts.

The real face of a young woman is interpreted by Laila Mubarak in her series "For Who She Is," in which you can become another person every day.

Laila Mubarak has offered these words about her work:
“'Life! Life! Don’t let us go to life for our fulfillment or our experience. It is a thing narrowed by circumstances, incoherent in its utterance, and without that fine correspondence of form and spirit, which is the only thing that can satisfy the artistic and critical temperament.' So says the character of Gilbert in the essay 'The Critic as Artist' by Oscar Wilde."
"Life has defects, and perhaps today they are the same as in 1890, when Wilde published his essay. These works of art present a diverse exploration of the other side of living in a fast-paced, globalized world, making art into problems that can be tackled."

Impulsarte Award
Laura F. Izuzquiza was the winner of the Impulsarte award by Petit Palace. At Hybrid Art Fair 2020, she shows us her new individual project: "El hilo de Ariadna" (The Thread of Ariadne).

The Thread of Ariadne is based on the Greek mythological figure of Ariadne; photographs are carefully strung together from the spindle that she gave to Theseus, so he could find his way out of the labyrinth of Crete.

Taking advantage of the incombustible capacity for myths to be updated, in this project, Ariadne is the ageless woman. She has recovered—metaphorically speaking—from the stages of her life, assistance, transformation, and rebirth, through the archetypes of the labyrinth, the thread, the dream, and the sea.

Intrinsically, the labyrinth represents the possibility of getting lost and perishing, and entering into it is a sure proof of life. The wisdom shown by Ariadne to return to the light, through the darkness of the unknown, is charted in this project using images connected with a thread, which tenses and leads the hand holding it.

The academic Hernández de la Fuente wrote about this project: "Ariadne's dream is a dream of transformation. The dream is directly linked to the sea, to the island of Naxos where Ariadne lay sleeping, whose waters were witness to her resurgence to consciousness."
This exhibit was created in collaboration with Boreal Project for Hybrid Art Fair.. The international fair of contemporary art celebrated its fourth edition in the Hotel Petit Palace Santa Barbara, Madrid, from February 28 to March 1, 2020.
