Gallery of the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art in Jagodina

The building of the Gallery of the Museum of Naive and Marginal Art in Jagodina, built in 1929. It is protected as national treasure by the Republic Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments. In 1960, this authentic building was restored and adapted for the needs of Museum.

The interior of the museum.  MNMA (Jagodina, Serbia), is a specialized and unique institution with a special programme of museum protection of the works of naïve and marginal art by collecting, studying, exhibiting, publishing and systematizing museum documentation.  

Sculptures by Charlotte Rogers, permanent setting. The artistic events have been continuously organised by Gallery of the Museum of Naïve and marginal Art since 1970 - Salons, Biennials and Triennials, as well as the Art Colonies.

The primary task of the Gallery is to provide overall museum protection to naïve and marginal art, thus transmitting a real image of its essence, high artistic value and authenticity.

Permanent exhibition. The Collection of MNMA is international in its character with more than 3500 works (paintings, sculptures, drawings and graphics) and about 400 artists from 1930s to the present day.

The Gallery was founded in 1960 in Jagodina, firstly as Gallery of Self-Taught Artists; in 1985 it received the name Museum of Naïve Art to be renamed into Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in 2007. Today it is called Gallery of the  Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art.

Works by Emeric Feješ and Srboljub Kojadinović, permanent setting. Gallery has been systematically working on protection of the works of naïve art, primarily Serbian and Yugoslav, to which international works were added in 1994.

Since its foundation, Gallery has organized more than 700 exhibitions. Within its rich international cooperation, Gallery has organized numerous representative exhibitions.

The works of Ilija Bašičević-Bosilj, permanent setting. In addition to accompanying elements of exhibiting activities such as bilingual catalogues and other advertising materials, the publishing activity of MNMA includes other publications: monographs, graphic maps, calendars etc.

In addition to representative permanent display, including the most significant works from the collection of MNMA, the exhibiting activity of the Gallery includes numerous exhibitions. 

Annex space, permanent exhibition of sculptures. Beginnings of establishment of collection of MNMA are related to the segment of collection of paintings, drawings and sculptures done by Serbian self-taught painters in the period between two world wars and  after the World War II. 

Sculptures, permanent exhibition. The first valuable artworks were acquired by donation and purchase from the authors themselves, the contemporaries at the time – Janko Brašić, Milosav Jovanović, Jan Knjazovic, Emerik Feješ, Bogosav Živković and a few artists from Jagodina.

The art collection was shown to the audience for the first time in 1960, entitled Self-Taught Serbian Peasant Painters at Gallery of Central Military Club in Belgrade, and soon at the international exhibitions.
