American singer of Ukrainian descent, Kvitka Cisyk embodied the melodiousness of Ukrainian music and singing talent which characterizes Ukrainians.

Kvitka Cisyk was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953 to a family of Ukrainian immigrants. She began singing at a young age and was a member of the Ukrainian National Chorus as a teenager. She studied music at the High School of Music & Art in New York City, Harpur College, and the Mannes College of Music.

In the American music world, Kvitka was known as Kasey. She was a successful singer, and worked with famous jazz, pop, and rock stars.

Kvitka was also known for voicing commercial jingles for widely-known companies.

Cisyk released her first album, Kvitka, in 1980. The album gained critical and commercial success, and it helped to launch her career as a singer. Later on, she released several other albums, including Songs of Ukraine.

Cisyk was a Grammy Award-nominated singer. She was nominated for Best Contemporary Folk Album for her albums Kvitka, Songs of Ukraine (1980), and Two Colors (1989). She was also a recipient of the Order of Princess Olga, one of the highest awards of the Ukrainian government.

Cisyk died of cancer on March 29, 1998, six days before her 45th birthday. She was a true pioneer of Ukrainian-American music, and her work helped to preserve and promote Ukrainian culture.

When listening to Cisyk’s songs, her unique voice and special folk technique make one imagine villages near the Carpathian Mountains. Her waltz, "Where Are You Now", takes you away to the city of youth, full of romantic memories.
