  • Transcript:
This was the momentous challenge facing our pioneers in charting a new political order. This was the major rubicon to cross for the former freedom fighters who had preached ungovernability, boycott and sanctions. They were now preparing to unite the country on the basis of a democratic, united, non-racial and non-sexist fatherland. They had to implement the core principles of the Freedom Charter, which declares that South Africa belongs to all its people, black and white. They were preparing to lead the same shunned country back into the international community. These pioneers became the cornerstone of almost everything we inherited from freedom struggles in various parts of the world. We respect and admire them for their sterling patriotism, tenacity and superb leadership skills. They are all worthy candidates for immortality. 13
