Displacement

An in-painting tour

Displacement (2019) by Faisal OsmanAl-Ghad Radio

The artist makes use of sharp, unnatural lines to contrast with the bleeding watercolour, to embody the relationship between man and earth.

The single green sandal (a colour often associated with Islam) isolated in the middle of the canvas may be a symbol of the perversion of ISIS narratives from the true teachings of Islam.

It is a still-life of the effects of forced displacement upon communities and individuals, visualised through abandoned possessions.

The picture contains moments of reprieve where sources of light indicate hope of unlikely and beautiful relationships that emerge as a result of displacement.
