Mirage (2019) by Abduljabbar Al ShaabaniAl-Ghad Radio

The destruction wrought by ISIS in Mosul resulted in a city in ruins. The Old City in particular, so full of historical and cultural sites, was all but levelled. The path to reconstruction can be slow and frustrating for Maslawis, who have already suffered so much.

The many faces of destruction loom over the city of Mosul.

Bombardment (2019) by Fakhir MohammedAl-Ghad Radio

The bold overlapping lines visualise the damage to the city; not a single structure went unscathed. Not a single pane of glass remained unbroken.

The archeological site of Nimrud, the Museum of Mosul, the Prophet Jonah Mosque, the Al-Hadba Minaret, and many other sites and landmarks lie in ruins.

But reconstruction, though slow, is underway and Mosul is beginning to return to its former self.
