Solid columbine grows in the deciduous undergrowth, on rather fresh and deep soils, rich in humus. The plant, especially in the tuber, is poisonous due to the presence of alkaloids. The generic name derives from the Greek word 'korydalis' (lark) and refers to the terminal spur of the flower which resembles the rear finger of the larks. The specific name refers to the tuber which is not hollow inside as in other species.
